All I want for Christmas is a new you!

When it comes to giving the perfect Christmas gift for your partner, many men often struggle finding something a little different, especially when all the tried and tested gifts have become tiresome… thinking perfume, makeup, underwear etc. However, the answer could be staring you right in the face, as many women now choose facial
non-surgical, aesthetic treatments as their number one preferred Christmas gift!

So it might come as no surprise to learn that a recent survey reported 21% of women had cosmetic surgery at the top of their Christmas wish list! That’s a staggering 1 in every 5 women! Plus, the number of treatments now available requiring minimum discomfort and down time, means north east woman can look great and feel good in time for December.

Top of the Christmas cosmetic tree was Botox at 27%, followed by breast augmentation (of the enlarged kind) at 21%. With Botox topping the wish list and a staggering increase of 38% of those men looking to treat their loved ones, the increase in autumn 2009 alone grew to 62% and the Aesthetic Beauty Centre fully expect this year to be the same.

And with Christmas being the busiest social month of the year, ladies are often demanding Santa arrives early so they can look their best for the festive season and the start of the New Year. So it’s goodbye crows (Turkey) feet and wrinkly necks, and hello smooth, younger looking skin with a well-contoured body and those all-important well balanced breasts. Watch out for the mistletoe!

Resurgence of Recell skin procedure as treatment for scars

Recell is an innovative procedure which helps to heal damaged skin while improving skin texture and colour using the patient’s own cells.
There has been a recent shift in the main use of this procedure to treat scars resulting from burns, acne, skin cancer and surgery.
The person’s own skin cells are harvested and then processed before being sprayed at the site to regrow and help the skin to heal. In burns cases the procedure is increasingly being used to work in harmony with skin grafts.
The procedure can have profound results for patients both physically and psychologically.
How it works
Dr Ash Dutta of Aesthetic Beauty Centre collects a skin sample from the patient and then processes it. The cells are made into an emulsion and then applied to another area of skin to help improve healing, skin texture and skin colour.
The procedure uses a 'spray solution' which contains all of the skin cells necessary to promote healthy skin growth. This includes keratinocyte cells that form the basis of healthy skin and melanocyte cells that produce skin colour (melanin).
The doctor sprays the harvested cells on to the recipient site. Once applied to the wound, these cells multiply and spread throughout the affected area, resulting in quicker healing.
Recell is used to treat:
• Scars resulting from trauma eg burns, acne, skin cancer or surgery
• Vitiligo, a chronic disorder that causes depigmentation of patches of skin.
• Sun damaged skin
• Hypopigmentation, a condition which causes loss or reduction of skin colour

During the Procedure
A small sample of skin (biopsy) is collected from an area close to the skin you want to treat. This ensures the treated area has the same texture and colour as the surrounding skin. The biopsy is usually around 1-2cm square and is also treated with the spray to help it heal properly.
While the doctor is preparing the area to be treated, the recell procedure enables the doctor to separate the cells allowing them to be easily collected and then sprayed onto the skin.
The treated area and biopsy site will be covered with a dressing, which will then be removed 5 days after the procedure.
The results
The results following surgery with Recell are highly dependant on the reason for undergoing the treatment, the severity of the condition and the ability of the patient’s body to recuperate after an operation. It is normal for the pigmentation to take some time to reach its optimum state but the results can have amazing physical and psychological effects.
What are the best results eg how quick and effect on scar eg completely healed? Which types of scars does it work on best?
How it helps burns scars?
The grade II or III scars do better with Recell. The earlier in the scarring process that the treatment can be instituted, the better the outcome. Healing takes about 7-10 days and the best results are visible in 2-3 months for scars and 8-12 months for pigmentary disorders.

BioFibre hair loss treatment

New hair loss treatment launches for the first time in the North East as the male market is the new battle ground for surgery

A new hair replacement treatment is now helping North East men to win the age-old battle against hair loss for the first time.

The innovative treatment, known as BioFibre, uses artificial hair implants to transform the patient with immediate effect giving them the hair colour and length they choose.

The procedure is permanent and once complete, lasts for years with no further need for surgery.

Dr Ash Dutta of Aesthetic Beauty Centre has brought the treatment to the North East for the first time, and the cosmetic surgery centre is only the second in the UK to offer this procedure to patients.

The move follows a dramatic rise in the number of men having cosmetic surgery across the country with a 21% year on year rise from 2003 with ‘moob’ reduction and liposuction among the most popular procedures.

Dr Dutta, who has offices in Newcastle, Sunderland and Teesside, said: “The male market is the new battle ground for cosmetic surgery and the number of men having procedures has increased by a fifth each year as men are more willing to look after their appearance and maintain their looks.

“Hair loss in men is extremely common and can take its toll on a person’s confidence and self esteem especially if they lose their hair at a young age.

“BioFibre is a real breakthrough in hair treatment, the transformation is immediate and one that will help to increase the person’s confidence. The procedure is quick and easy to perform with no recovery time and minimal pain and discomfort for the patient.”

Unlike previous hair transplants, BioFibre is made from a non-reactive, human tissue friendly material which means that there is far less chance of the body rejecting it like other transplants using real hair.

Dr Dutta performs the transformation by injecting fibres into the areas of baldness or thinning in the scalp. The patient then sees instantaneous results without having to wait for hair follicles to grow over months.

The artificial hair has a completely natural look and colour to match the person’s own hair and can be phased in as they lose their hair.

The treatment can also be phased carefully as part of pre planned programme helping to replace hair loss gradually without drawing too much attention.

Dr Dutta, added: “This is a very new procedure and is consistent with the latest demands in cosmetic surgery for procedures that are minimally invasive, do not require general anaesthetic, radically reduce recovery time and therefore disruption to the patient.”

The Aesthetic Beauty Centre is a successful cosmetic surgery practice founded in the North East ten years ago. Established in 2000 in Sunderland by cosmetic surgeon Dr Dutta, they now have clinics in Newcastle, Sunderland,Teeside, Edinburgh and Harley Street, London giving the business a national presence.
